Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Buckle the driver's seat belt.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the SEAT BELT parameter in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool display BUCKLED?

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Observe the fasten seat belt indicator on the instrument cluster (IPC) during the bulb check.

Does the indicator illuminate during the bulb check?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 10

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Unbuckle the driver's seat belt.
  3. Disconnect the seat belt switch.
  4. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between the signal circuit and the ground circuit of the seat belt switch.
  5. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  6. With a scan tool, observe the SEAT BELT parameter.

Does the scan tool display BUCKLED?

Go to Step 8

Test the ground circuit of the seat belt switch for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Test the signal circuit of the seat belt switch for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to voltage
    • A high resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the seat belt switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Important: Perform the setup procedure for the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .

Replace the instrument cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the seat belt switch.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
