Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR. Refer
to
Disabling the SIR System
.
- Remove the steering column trim covers.
- Rotate the steering wheel one half turn to the right to access
the inflator module screws.
- Remove the screws from the back of the inflator module using a
TORX® driver.
- Remove the inflator module from the steering wheel.
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced
under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required
retention period. Refer to
Inflator Module Handling, Shipping, and Scrapping
.
- Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflator
module electrical connector.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the steering wheel inflator
module.
- Disconnect the horn ground lead from the steering wheel.

in order to remove the horn contact lead from the steering column shaft tower.
Installation Procedure
- Rotate the steering wheel
½ turn to the left in order to center the steering wheel.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the screws to the back of the steering wheel inflator module
using a TORX® driver.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Use hand tools only to achieve fastener torque. This will prevent stripping
of the replacement fastener.
- Rotate the horn contact lead clockwise ¼ turn in
order to install the horn contact lead to the steering column shaft tower.
- Connect the horn ground lead to the steering wheel.
- Connect the electrical connector to the back of the steering wheel
inflator module.
- Install the CPA to the steering wheel inflator module.
- Position the screws on the steering wheel inflator module to the
retaining holes on the steering wheel.
- Install the steering wheel inflator module to the steering wheel
by firmly pressing the module into place until fully seated.
- Install the steering column trim covers.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
