Under some conditions rust spots or streaks may appear below the quarter window on the Grand AM Coupe. This condition results from the window module contacting the body opening and wearing through the paint.
When a car is being repaired for this condition, it is important to install a paint shield to protect the paint before the module is re-installed.
This will reduce the possibility of a recurrence of the condition. The paint shield prevents the quarter window module from coming in contact with the painted surface of the body opening.
Repair rusted area and refinish as necessary.
With the refinished area clean and dry, install the appropriate paint shield as illustrated in Figure 1.
Press firmly in place.
Install quarter window module using recommended service manual procedures.
Paint shields are available from GMSPO as right and left hand as follows:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
