GM CAMS DIAGNOSTIC TIME ALLOWANCE

THIS BULLETIN REPLACES BULLETIN 87-WA-8 DATED 5/87. PLEASE DISCARD BULLETIN 87-WA-8 AND FILE THIS REVISED BULLETIN IN ITS PLACE.

EFFECTIVE WITH CREDIT MEMORANDUM 722, A DIAGNOSTIC LABOR TIME ALLOWANCE (0.5 HOURS) HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO OFFSET THE ADDITIONAL TIME INVOLVED WHEN A TECHNICIAN CONNECTS A CAMS UNIT TO AN OWNER'S VEHICLE AND RUNS A DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF A DRIVEABILITY COMPLAINT THAT IS COVERED UNDER THE 5 YEAR/50,000 MILE EMISSION WARRANTY. THIS DIAGNOSTIC LABOR OPERATION (J9997) IS VALID FOR 5 YEARS/50,000 MILES FROM THE ORIGINAL DELIVERY OR INSERVICE DATE.

TO SUBMIT FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC ALLOWANCE, A SEPARATE CLAIM LINE MUST BE ENTERED WITH THE LABOR OPERATION J9997 AND .5 HOURS IN THE REGULAR LABOR HOURS. THIS MUST BE ENTERED IN ADDITION TO THE CLAIM LINE THAT DESCRIBES THE OPERATION THAT CORRECTED THE CAUSE OF THE COMPLAINT.

A CLAIM FOR THE CAMS DIAGNOSTIC SHOULD NOT BE SUBMITTED UNLESS THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS ARE MET:

1. THE DEALER HAS A GM CAMS UNIT WITH A PONTIAC ACCESSORY KIT.

2. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT EXCEEDED THE 5 YEAR/50,000 MILE EMISSION WARRANTY.

3. THE CAMS UNIT WAS CONNECTED AND A FULL IDAGNOSTIC ROUTINE WAS PERFORMED (ATTACH THE PRINTOUT TO THE SCRAPPING COPY OF THE WARRANTY REPAIR ORDER.)

4. THE REPAIR PERFORMED TO CORRECT THE CAUSE OFTHE OWNER'S COMPLAINT WAS COVERED BY THE 5 YEAR/50,000 EMISSIONS WARRANTY.

5. A CLAIM FOR THE CAMS DIAGNOSTIC LABOR TIME ALLOWANCE SHOULD NOT BE SUB- MITTED WITHOUT A CLAIM FOR THE DRIVEABILITY REPAIR THAT WAS DIAGNOSED. WARRANTY CLAIMS INFORMATION
