COMPOSITE HEADLAMP SERVICE INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 'N' Series

Composite lamps are now standard equipment on Calais GT and ES models. Each lamp assembly contains two halogen bulbs. The outboard bulbs are used for low beam and inboard bulbs are used for high beam.

The bulbs themselves are dual-filament and high and low beam bulbs are interchangeable.

Care should be used when handling the new bulbs to prevent dirt and oil from getting on the bulb.

COMPOSITE LAMP BULB REPLACEMENT (Refer to Figure 1).

CAUTION:

TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY:

- Shield eyes and skin - Keep dirt and moisture off bulb - Handle bulb only by the base - Do not operate the bulb when out of the housing - Discard bulb by placing in carton The bulb can shatter and the lamp becomes very hot.

REMOVAL OF BULB ASSEMBLY

1. Open hood. 2. Loosen lock ring by turning counterclockwise. 3. With a vertical rocking motion pull bulb rearward. 4. With one hand, grip the wiring harness connector and lock tab. DO NOT GRIP THE WIRES. With the other hand grip the base of the bulb, 'DO NOT GRIP THE BULB GLASS', and pull the bulb assembly apart from the harness connector.

INSTALLATION OF BULB ASSEMBLY

1. Install bulb and socket onto lamp harness connector. Be sure low beam connector is to low beam lamp and high beam connector is to high beam lamp.

2. Align the 3 bulb base slots with the lamp housing lugs and insert bulb in lamp housing.

NOTE:Lock tab is positioned up on inboard (hi-beam) and down on outboard (lo-beam) locations.

3. Lock ring by turning clockwise.

Inspect for proper operation.
