Borroughs Tools and Equipment has made available a special tool, BT 8517, which simplifies removal of the lower ashtray housing. The lower ashtray housing must be removed to remove the radio trim plate on a 1985 Calais not equipped with an Auto-Calculator.
Service Procedure
1. Open the lower ashtray housing and remove ashtray.
2. Push lower ashtray housing in until front of lower housing is approximately 38-51mm (1.5-2.0 inches) from trim plate.
3. Insert BT 8517 into opening as shown in Figure 1.
4. While pressing on tool, push lower housing outward until it is free of the trim plate.
5. To reinstall lower housing, reinstall BT 8517 as shown in Figure 1.
6. Position lower housing into the tracks of the upper housing. Depress the tabs slightly so that the lower housing enters the upper housing easily and push lower housing fully forward.
7. Remove tool.
