LOOSE GEAR SELECT INDICATOR PLATE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 'N' Series

1985 'N' models equipped with automatic transaxles utilize a self adjusting 'Gear Select' indicator plate. Instances of loose plates have been encountered and may be corrected by using the following procedure.

2. Remove indicator plate retaining screw and add washer under spring seat as shown in Fig. Reinstall retaining screw.

3. Position gear select indicator plate to the forward end of its travel.

4. Reinstall front console trim plate. The gear select indicator will self adjust when the shift lever is moved manually to 'First' and then to 'Park'.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
