A revised geroter oil pump assembly went into production recently on the above engines. It incorporates a new internal pump gear, crankshaft sprocket and crankshaft pulley and dampener assembly. Figures 1 and 2 identify the differences.
The splines have been removed from the crankshaft sprocket and replaced by two 'flats' one on each side of the gear (Items 5A and 5B). The aluminum seal, item No. 6 has been removed. As a result the length of tne hub from front to rear on the crank pulley and dampener has been changed to 4.6 mm (.183 of an inch).
Installation of the wrong pulley and balancer assembly may cause improper drive belt alignment and premature belt failure.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
