INTERIOR DOOR TRIM PANEL P/N FOR PROPER TOOL

VEHICLES AFFECTED: All 1985 'N' Cars -----------------

Please discard previous bulletin 2-145 due to this revision which provides updated information.

Door trim panel retainers may become loose or separated from the formed door trim panel foundation board. This may be due to removal of the door trim panel when servicing the internal mechanism of the door without using the proper trim pad remover tool.

To prevent damage to the trim panel foundation board or retainer clip, trim pad remover tool J-24595B, BT-7323A or BT-7323B should be used. DO NOT grasp trim panel and pull on board to disengage fasteners as described in the 1985 Body by Fisher service Manual. Each fastener should be disengaged using the trim pad remover tool.

When a retainer clip is broken or separates from the door trim panel foundation board, it is NOT necessary to replace the door trim panel. It can be re-attached using 3M Structural Adhesive, part no. 8101 or equivalent. Epoxy must be allowed adequate time to cure prior to replacing trim panel on door. The procedure in Section 5 N Style of the 1985 Body by Fisher Service Manual should be followed. See Figure 1.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
