CAMPAIGN: PULSE WIPER SWITCH MOTOR INCOMPATIBILITY

DEFECT INVOLVED THE VEHICLES WERE ASSEMBLED WITH TWO-SPEED WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCHES THAT ARE INCOMPATIBLEE WITH PULSE-WIPE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTORS. WHILE THE SYSTEM REMAINS FUNCTIONAL, THE TWO-SPEED SWITCH/PULSE-WIPER MOTOR COMBINATION COULD RESULT IN PERFORMANCE NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 104 (WINDSHIELD WIPING AND WASHING SYSTEMS.) VEHICLES INVOLVED INVOLVED ARE CERTAIN EARLY PRODUCTION 1985 PONTIAC GRAND AM MODELS. CHECK C.R.I.S. SYSTEM TO DETERMINE IF A SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN. PART I - SERVICE PROCEDURE (INSPECT MOTOR) 1. OPEN HOOD. 2A. USING A HAND MIRROR, VIEW THE SILVER PART IDENTIFICATION LABEL ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. 2B. IF THE MOTOR LABEL INDICATES "CD4" ON THE TOP PRINTED LINE, PROCEED TO PART II - SERVICE PROCEDURE (REPLACE SWITCH). 2C. IF THE MOTOR LABEL INSPECTION DOES NOT REVEAL THE CD4 PULSE-WIPER OPTION CODE, PROCEED TO PART III FOR INSTALLATION OF CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL. PART II - SERVICE PROCEDURE (REPLACE SWITCH) 1. REMOVE SCREW AT TWO-SPEED SWITCH BOTTOM. 2. REMOVE SWITCH BY DISCONNECTING WIRE HARNESS. 3. RECONNECT HARNESS TO NEW PULSE-WIPER SWITCH. 4. REPLACE SCREW AT SWITCH BOTTOM. 5. SEE PART III FOR INSTALLATION OF CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL. PARTS INFORMATION THE PARTS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THIS CAMPAIGN ARE TO BE OBTAINED FROM THE PONTIAC ZONE OFFICE AS NECESSARY.
