HEATER- A/C FUSE BLOWN INTERMITTENT A/C CYCLING

1985 GRAND AM

Some 1985 Grand Am vehicles equipped with 2.5L 4 cylinder engine and air conditioning may experience a blown heater-A/C fuse, intermittant high pressure switch cycling or intermittant compressor clutch cycling (e.g., normal clutch cycles become too frequent or highly erratic).

This condition may be the result of the A/C compressor pressure switch wiring and cutout switch wiring shorting against the exhaust pipe.

To repair the condition, repair the shorted wiring. Add a tie strap (P/N 3816659) and strap the wiring to the air conditioning pipe by the A/C muffler (See illustration).

A change in production has been made starting with V.I.N. FC712899.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
