Replacement Door/Ignition Key Does Not Work in Door Lock Cylinder or Ignition Lock Cylinder Due to Different Key Code - keywords cut cylinder ignition key lock security tumbler

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

If a customer loses a key or wants an additional key(s), the dealer has to order them per TSB 03-00-89-037A. In rare instances, the dealer may receive a replacement key and the key code is different from the original which will not work in the vehicle's door or ignition lock cylinder.

When the vehicle was manufactured, the incorrect key code information was put on the vehicle's Security Card. Since the original key code information on the Security Card cannot be changed, the best course of action is to recode the door lock cylinder and the ignition lock cylinder for the key that was sent and to order the appropriate number of keys. This way, in the future, if the customer ever loses the keys or needs additional keys the dealer can order the key per the TSB and it will be what the vehicle is equipped with after being recoded.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
