  1. Ensure the driver's seat belt is not fastened.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.

Does the chime sound for at least 8 seconds and does the seat belt indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 2

  1. Ensure the driver's seat belt is not fastened.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.
  3. Observe the seat belt indicator for approximately 3 minutes.

Does the seat belt indicator start flashing after 60 seconds, then go off after another 90 seconds?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 10

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Buckle the driver's seat belt.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.

Does the seat belt indicator and chime remain OFF?

System OK

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the seat belt buckle switch LF connector.
  3. Test the seat belt buckle switch left signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the seat belt buckle switch LF connector.
  3. Test the seat belt buckle switch left signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Test the seat belt buckle switch left ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Ensure the driver's seat belt is not fastened.
  2. Test the seat belt buckle switch for continuity. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is continuity present?

Go to Step 10

  1. Fasten the driver's seat belt.
  2. Test the seat belt buckle switch for continuity. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 9

Replace the LF seat belt buckle. Refer to Front Seat Belt Buckle Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 11

Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
