J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the thermal expansion valve (TXV) tube plate bolt (5).
  3. Remove the tube retaining plate (7) and the evaporator inlet (6) and outlet (4) tubes from the TXV (10).
  4. Remove and discard the O-rings (8).
  5. Remove the TXV to evaporator bolts (3, 9).
  6. Remove the TXV from the evaporator core tubes (1).
  7. Remove and discard the O-rings (11).
  8. Important: Cap or tape the open evaporator inlet and outlet tubes immediately to prevent contamination of the refrigerant system.

  9. Cap off the evaporator inlet and outlet tube.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new O-rings (11) onto the evaporator core tubes (1). Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the TXV (10) to the evaporator core tubes.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the TXV to evaporator bolts (3, 9).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4.5 N·m (40 lb in).

  6. Remove the cap or tape from the evaporator inlet and outlet tubes.
  7. Install the new O-rings (8) onto the evaporator inlet (6) and outlet (4) tubes. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  8. Install the evaporator outlet and inlet tube and tube retaining plate (7) to the TXV.
  9. Install the evaporator tube plate retaining bolt (5).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).

  11. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  12. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
