Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1293684  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the front suspension support brace. Refer to Front Suspension Support Brace Replacement in Front Suspension.
  3. Remove the fuel rail covers.
  4. Disconnect the air intake sensor connector (2) from the air intake sensor.
  5. Loosen the hose clamps (1,3) securing the intake duct.
  6. Remove the intake duct from the vehicle.

  8. Depressurize the fuel rail. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief in Engine Controls-5.7L.
  9. Disconnect the fuel line (4) from the fuel rail. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Engine Compartment in Engine Controls - 5.7 L.
  10. Disconnect the purge line (1) from the purge valve.

  11. Object Number: 655145  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coils.
  13. • Twist the spark plug wire boot 1/2 turn.
    • Pull only on the boot in order to remove the wire from the ignition coil.

  14. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) clip (1).
  15. Disconnect the ignition coil wire harness main electrical connector  (2).

  16. Object Number: 697215  Size: SH
  17. Remove the ignition coil bracket bolts and screw from the rocker arm cover.
  18. Remove the ignition coil bracket from the rocker arm cover.

  19. Object Number: 260085  Size: SH
  20. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  21. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.

  22. Object Number: 490696  Size: SH
  23. Remove the gasket (1) from the rocker cover.
  24. Discard the OLD gasket.
  25. Clean and inspect the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

Important: 

   • All gasket surfaces should be free of oil and other foreign material during assembly.
   • DO NOT reuse the valve rocker arm cover gasket.
   • The valve rocker arm cover bolt grommets may be reused.

  1. Install a NEW rocker cover gasket (1) into the valve rocker cover lip.

  2. Object Number: 260085  Size: SH
  3. Install the valve rocker arm cover onto the cylinder head.
  4. Install NEW rocker arm cover bolt grommets, if necessary.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the rocker arm cover bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).


    Object Number: 697215  Size: SH
  8. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382, (Canadian P/N 10953489), or equivalent to the threads of the bracket studs.
  9. Install the ignition coil bracket to the rocker arm cover.
  10. Install the ignition coil bracket bolts and screw to the rocker arm cover.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition coil bracket bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  12. Connect the ignition coil wire harness main electrical connector (2).
  13. Install the CPA clip (1).

  14. Object Number: 655145  Size: SH
  15. Install the spark plug wires to the ignitions coils.

  16. Object Number: 1372163  Size: SH
  17. Connect the fuel line (4) to the fuel rail. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Engine Compartment in Engine Controls - 5.7 L.
  18. Connect the purge line (1) to the purge valve.

  19. Object Number: 1293684  Size: SH
  20. Install the intake duct to the vehicle.
  21. Secure the intake duct with the hose clamps (1,3).
  22. Connect the air intake sensor connector (2) to the air intake sensor.
  23. Install the fuel rail covers.
  24. Install the front suspension support brace. Refer to Front Suspension Support Brace Replacement in Front Suspension.
  25. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
