Draining Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning in the Preface section.

    Warning: Refer to Gasoline/Gasoline Vapors Warning in the Preface section.

    Warning: Never drain or store fuel in an open container. Always use an approved fuel storage container in order to reduce the chance of fire or explosion.

    Warning: Place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby before performing any on-vehicle service procedures. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury.

  1. Remove the fuel filler cap.
  2. Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  5. Disconnect the fuel feed line (1) from the fuel feed pipe (2). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service.
  6. Note: Up to 26 liters (7 gallons) of residual fuel may remain in the secondary side of the fuel tank.

  7. Connect a commercially available fuel pump to the fuel feed line (1).
  8. Operate the commercially available fuel pump and drain the fuel into an approved fuel container.
  9. Disconnect the commercially available fuel pump from the fuel feed line (1).
  10. If the tank is not being removed, connect the fuel feed line (1) to the fuel feed pipe (2). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service.
