Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Remove Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement.
  3. Remove the steering column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
  4. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
  5. Remove the headlamp/turn signal switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Switch Replacement.
  6. Remove the wiper washer switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.

  7. Object Number: 1959107  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the connectors  (1) from  (2)
  9. Place some tape around the steering wheel module coil before removing from steering column.

  10. Object Number: 1943661  Size: SH
  11. Remove the SIR coil assembly to steering wheel retaining screws  (1).
  12. Remove the SIR coil assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: The new SIR coil assembly will be centered. Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction.

    Note: If the existing SIR coil assembly is to be reinstalled, the SIR coil assembly must be centred.

  1. Install the SIR coil assembly.

  2. Object Number: 1959107  Size: SH
  3. Connect the SIR coil assembly connector (1).

  4. Object Number: 1943661  Size: SH
  5. Install the SIR coil assembly to steering column retaining screws (1).
  6. Install the wipers/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.
  7. Install the headlamp/turn signal switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Switch Replacement.
  8. Install steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
  9. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
  10. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module to the steering wheel. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement.
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  12. Calibrate the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Angle Sensor Centering.
