The clutch pedal position (CPP) sensor is an input to the engine control module (ECM). The CPP sensor is a potentiometer type sensor with a 5-volt reference signal circuit, a low reference signal circuit, and a sensor signal circuit. The ECM supplies the 5-volt reference signal to the CPP sensor.
With the pedal released the CPP sensor signal should read above 4 volts. With the pedal fully depressed the CPP sensor signal should read below 1 volt.
When the ECM detects a Not Learned condition of the CPP sensor, DTC P080A sets. DTC P080A is a Type B DTC.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC P080A Clutch Pedal Position Not Learned
With the clutch pedal fully released, if the CPP sensor detects greater than 4.7 volts or less than 3.25 volts for greater than 6 seconds then DTC P080A sets.
• | The ECM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) during the second consecutive trip in which the Conditions for Setting the DTC are met. |
• | The ECM records the operating conditions when the Conditions for Setting the DTC are met. The ECM stores this information as Freeze Frame and Failure Records. |
• | The ECM stores DTC P080A in ECM history during the second consecutive trip in which the Conditions for Setting the DTC are met. |
• | The ECM turns OFF the MIL during the third consecutive trip in which the diagnostic test runs and passes. |
• | A scan tool can clear the MIL/DTC. |
• | The ECM clears the DTC from ECM history if the vehicle completes 40 warm-up cycles without an emission related diagnostic fault occurring. |
This code is usually set when a new controller or a new CPP sensor has been installed and has not gone through the CPP Sensor Learn Procedure yet. Electrical circuit faults of open, short to ground, or short to voltage are covered by other DTCs.

Important: The CPP Sensor Learn Procedure cannot be performed more than once per ignition cycle. Perform the CPP Learn Procedure. Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn . Does the scan tool display Learned this ignition? | Go to Step 7 | Go to Step 4 |
4 | Test for an intermittent and for a poor connection at the ECM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs . Did you find and correct the condition? | Go to Step 7 | Go to Step 5 |
5 | Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the CPP sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs . Did you find and correct the condition? | Go to Step 7 | Go to Step 6 |
6 | Replace the ECM. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming. Did you complete the replacement? | Go to Step 7 | -- |

has the test run and passed? | Go to Step 8 | Go to Step 2 |
8 | With the scan tool observe the stored information, Capture Info and DTC Info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? | System OK |
