Squawk Noise On 2-3 Shift - keywords second third

This PI was updated to add 2005 model and change the recommendation. Please discard PIP3897.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

If the above vehicle has the concern of a squawk noise on the 2-3 shift under moderate to heavy throttle then follow the recommendations below. To date only the following trans models 6EVJ or 6ESJ have been identified with this concern.

Call TAC and set a case.

The temporary field fix is to have the dealer order fiber plates for the direct and coast clutches and 2nd clutch for trans models 6EZJ or 6EXJ depending on axle ratio. Also replace the direct and coast steel plates with new ones even though they are the same across all four models. Bind the clutches and steels together in a suitable manner for shipping in the order they were stacked in the transmission.

A new calibration will need to be obtained by a VCI number from Techline.

At this time, the concern is limited to 2006 Pontiac G6s with 3.5 LX9 engine.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
