The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some owners may comment about a low coolant indicator being illuminated. The cooling system may not have been completely purged of air, or completely filled with coolant at the assembly plant. If this is the cause, you will not find any leaks when pressure testing the system as described below.
Pressure test the cooling system using the procedure described in SI.
Note: When pressure testing the cap on the surge tank, do NOT use the SPX (Kent-Moore) adapter J-42401-1 called out in the procedure. That adapter has been found in some instances to fail good caps while in other instances the cap being tested will not screw-on to the adapter.
Until a new adapter becomes available, it is recommended that an aftermarket adapter (e.g. SnapOn TA37) be used to test the cap. Aftermarket adapters such as the one described will work with the pressure tester pump called out in the SI procedure.
If no leaks are found, then add coolant as necessary to the surge tank. Return the vehicle to the customer and make note if the vehicle ever returns for the same condition. If the vehicle DOES return with the same condition and when tested no leak is found, contact TAC and request that a case be created.
This document will be updated when/if new information becomes available.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
