The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.
The Tech 2 displays that the "Setup SDM Part Number in the BCM" procedure is not required but the old and new SDM part numbers are not the same.
The electronic part number stored in a service SDM is the corresponding production part number. It is NOT the service part number.
The reason for this is to facilitate replacement of SDM in service. If there was a running part number change and a new service part was used to repair a vehicle, the electronic part number in BCM would not match and this procedure would be required to avoid SDM from setting B1001 DTC.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
