Normal Vehicle Use

These schedules are for the following vehicles:

    • Vehicles that carry passengers and cargo within recommended limits. The tire load information label of the vehicle, which is located on the driver's door, lists these limits.
    • Vehicles that are driven on adequate road surfaces within legal speed limits.
    • Vehicles that use the recommended fuel.

Selecting the Right Maintenance Schedule

Determine which of the two schedules is right for your vehicle. Refer to the definitions of maintenance schedules below.

Important: Additional maintenance recommendations are in this subsection. Refer to Owner Checks and Services and to Periodic Maintenance Inspection .

Short Trip/City Maintenance Definition

Follow the Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule if any of these conditions is true for your vehicle:

    • Most trips are less than 8 to 16 km (5 to 10 mi). This is important when outside temperatures are below freezing.
    • Most trips include extensive idling, such as frequently driving in stop-and-go traffic.
    • Most trips are through dusty areas.
    • You frequently tow a trailer or use a carrier on top of your vehicle.
    • If the vehicle is used for delivery service, for police, for taxi, and for other commercial applications.

Long Trip/Highway Maintenance Definition

Follow this maintenance schedule only if none of the conditions from the Short Trip/City Maintenance Schedule is true.
