Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) connector C2.
  2. Disconnect connector C310.
  3. Use a J 35616-A in order to connect 1 red lead of a J 33431-C to cavity 1 of connector C310.
  4. Connect the other lead to ground.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  6. Set the resistance dial of the tester to the following values:
  7. • 120 Ohms
    • 32 Ohms
    • 3 Ohms

Does the fuel gauge read the specified values?

E (120 ohms)

1/2 (32 ohms)

F(3 ohms)

  1. Disconnect the J 33431-C .
  2. Disconnect the IP cluster assembly connector C3.
  3. Connect a digital multimeter from the IP cluster assembly connector C3, cavity 9 to the fuel gauge sender unit connector cavity 1.
  4. Measure the resistance.

Is the resistance more than the specified value?

5ohms

  1. Test for an open in the BLK wire from the fuel gauge sender unit to G400.
  2. If the wire is OK, replace the fuel gauge sender unit. Refer to Fuel Level Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Inspect for high resistance in the printed circuit of the instrument panel cluster.
  2. If the resistance is OK, replace the fuel gauge. Refer to Fuel Gage Replacement .

Repair the YEL/RED wire between the instrument panel cluster assembly and the fuel gauge sender unit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
