Brake Pipe Replacement Front

Removal Procedure

  1. Clean all of the dirt and foreign material from the pipes and the fittings.

  2. Object Number: 176230  Size: MH
  3. For vehicles without ABS, remove the pipe(s) to be replaced at the following locations (where applicable):
  4. • Proportioning valve (8)
    • Master cylinder (4)
    • Front brake hose fitting pipe

  5. For vehicles with ABS, remove the pipes to be replaced at the following locations (where applicable):
  6. • Proportioning valve
    • Master cylinder (2)
    • ABS hydraulic modulator (4)
    • Front brake hose fitting pipe
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  8. Remove the pipe(s) from the guide brackets.
  9. Remove the pipes from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the pipe(s) to the front wheel brake hose fitting.
  2. Lower the vehicle.

  3. Object Number: 176238  Size: MH
  4. Install the new pipe(s) to the following locations (where applicable):
  5. • Master cylinder (2)
    • ABS hydraulic modulator (4)
    • Proportioning valve

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Secure the pipe(s) with guide brackets and pipe fitting nuts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fitting nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  8. Flush and bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Flushing .

Brake Pipe Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Clean all of the dirt and foreign material from the pipes and fittings.

  3. Object Number: 176241  Size: SH
  4. Remove the mounting nuts and the three brake fluid/fuel pipe guard plates (3).
  5. Remove the brake pipe(s) from the rear four-way junction and from the proportioning valve (non-ABS) or front four-way junction (ABS-equipped).

  6. Object Number: 176238  Size: MH
  7. Remove the pipe(s) from the bulkhead guide brackets (7).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 176238  Size: MH
  1. Install the brake pipe(s) to the vehicle.
  2. Secure the brake pipes with the guide brackets (7).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   4. Install the fitting nuts at the proportioning valve.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fitting nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  6. Install three brake fluid/fuel pipe guard plates (3). Secure the guard plates with nuts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the brake fluid/fuel pipe guard plate nuts to 14 N·m (124 lb in).

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Flush and bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Flushing .
