Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge
    • J 34730-75 Fuel Rail Adapter
  1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Remove the air cleaner (ACL). Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  3. Disconnect the hose clamp and the fuel feed hose from the throttle body. Use a shop towel in order to catch any remaining fuel that may leak.

  4. Object Number: 159168 Size: SH
  5. Install the J 34730-75 to the throttle body fuel injection unit.
  6. Connect the fuel feed hose (1) to the J 34730-75 , and secure the hose with the clamp.

  7. Object Number: 159170 Size: SH
  8. Install the J 34730-1A to the J 34730-75 , and tighten securely.
  9. Install the ACL. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  10. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12. Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable retainer to 5.5 N·m (49 lb in).

  13. Start the engine.
  14. Idle the engine at normal operating temperature.
  15. Use the following procedure in order to check the fuel pressure:
  16. • 90-140 kPa (13-20 psi) with the engine idling.
    • 160-207 kPa (23-30 psi) with the engine not running and with the ignition switch ON -- FUEL PUMP RUNNING.
    • Fuel pressure should equal 90 kPa (13 psi) or more within one minute of the engine not running, and the ignition switch ON -- FUEL PUMP NOT RUNNING.
  17. If the fuel pressure is not within the specifications, refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .
