J 39641 Headrest Removal Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the seatback trim from the front bucket seat. Refer to Front Seat Back Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 330790  Size: MH
  3. Remove the cover retainer rings (4) from the seatback cover.
  4. Raise the cover in order to access the guides.
  5. Remove the head restraint post retaining rings (5) from the bottom of the posts.
  6. Slide the J 39641 up the head restraint posts with the tool tabs fitting into the open slots between the head restraint guide tabs.
  7. With the headrest removal tools in place, rotate each tool in order for the head restraint guide tabs to expand outward.

  8. Object Number: 330786  Size: SH
  9. Remove the screws (1) and the seat shoulder belt guide (2), if required.
  10. Remove the head restraint (4).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 330790  Size: MH
  1. Install the head restraint post retaining rings (2,5) to the bottom of the posts.

  2. Object Number: 330786  Size: SH
  3. Install the head restraint (4).

  4. Object Number: 330790  Size: MH
  5. Install the cover retainer rings (4) to the seatback cover.
  6. Install the seatback trim to the front bucket seat. Refer to Front Seat Back Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 330786  Size: SH
  8. Install the shoulder belt guide (2) to the head restraint if required.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the shoulder belt guide screws (1).
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
