Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  3. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn ON the radio.
  6. Measure the voltage from the accessory voltage circuit of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector, harness side, to a good ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V DC

Go to Step  5

4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Measure the resistance from the accessory voltage circuit to the remote radio control signal circuit of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  3. Press the following steering wheel controls and record the resistance values:
  4. • Volume up
    • Volume down
    • Play
    • Mute
    • Seek up
    • Seek down
    • AM/FM
