Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the
Fuel Pressure Relief
.
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Draining
.
- Remove the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
.
- Remove the fuel sender assembly. Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
.
- Note the position of the fuel strainer (4) on the fuel pump.
- Support the fuel sender assembly with one hand and grasp the strainer
(4) with the other hand.
- Pull the strainer off the pump. Discard the strainer after inspection.
- Inspect the strainer. Replace a contaminated strainer and clean
the fuel tank.
Installation Procedure
- Install a new fuel strainer
(4) in the same position as noted during disassembly. Push the strainer on
the bottom of the fuel sender until the strainer is fully seated.
- Install the fuel sender assembly. Refer to

- Perform the fuel tank leak check. Refer to
Fuel Tank Leak Test

- Install the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
.
- Refill the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel filler cap.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Inspect for leaks.
8.1. | Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds. |
8.2. | Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds. |
8.3. | Turn ON the ignition. |
8.4. | Check for fuel leaks. |
