Inspect the engine mount fasteners.

Are the engine mount fasteners loose?

Tighten the engine mount fasteners to the specified torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L or Fastener Tightening Specifications in Engine Mechanical - 5.7L.

Does the clutch still grab?

Check for a damaged engine mount.

Is the engine mount damaged?

Replace the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L or Engine Mount Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 5.7L.

Does the clutch still grab?

Check the pressure plate for burned or smeared resin.

Is there burned or smeared resin on the pressure plate?

    • If the burns or smears are superficial, clean or sand off the excess resin.
    • If the pressure plate is burned or has heat checked parts, then replace the pressure plate. Refer to Clutch Pressure Plate and Clutch Driven Plate .

Check for a warped pressure plate.

Is the pressure plate warped?

Replace the pressure plate. Ensure that the runout does not exceed the amount given in the value column. Refer to Clutch Pressure Plate and Clutch Driven Plate .

1.25 mm (0.050 in)

Check for oil on the clutch pressure plate facing or a burned or glazed facing.

Is there oil on the clutch pressure plate facing or a burned or glazed face?

  1. Correct the leak at the source. Refer Oil Leak Diagnosis in Engine Mechanical.
  2. Install a new clutch pressure plate. Refer to Clutch Pressure Plate and Clutch Driven Plate .

Check for worn splines on the transmission main drive gear.

Are there worn splines on the transmission main drive gear?

Is the release bearing binding on the retaining tube on the transmission main drive gear?
