Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement 3.8 L
Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system.

Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical
connector (2).
Important: Care must be taken when handling the ECT sensor. damage to the sensor
will affect proper operation of the fuel injection system.
- Remove the ECT sensor.
Installation Procedure
- Coat the ECT sensor threads with sealer GM P/N 12346004
or equivalent.
- Install the ECT sensor
into the engine.
- Tighten the ECT sensor.
Tighten
Tighten the ECT sensor to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Connect the ECT sensor
electrical connector (2).
- Refill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement 5.7 L
Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system.

Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical
connector.
- Remove the number 1 spark plug wire.
Important: Care must be taken when handling the ECT sensor. Damage to the sensor
will affect proper operation of the fuel injection system.
- Remove the ECT sensor.
Installation Procedure
- Coat the ECT sensor threads
with sealer GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent.
- Install the ECT sensor.
- Install the ECT sensor.
Tighten
Tighten the ECT sensor to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Install the number 1 spark plug wire.
- Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
- Refill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
