IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT SOME DEALERS ARE TRYING TO REWIRE THE TWO ENGINE FANS SO THAT BOTH FANS RUN AT THE SAME TIME. THIS SHOULD NOT BE DONE AS IT MAY RESULT IN A BURNED OUT RELAY. NORMAL OPERATION OF THE TWO FANS IS AS FOLLOWS: 1. THE LEFT HAND FAN (DRIVERS POSITION) IS CONTROLLED BY THE ECM. 2. THE RIGHT HAND FAN IS CONTROLED BY A FAN TEMPERATURE SWITCH LOCATED BETWEEN THE NUMBER 6 AND 8 CYLINDERS. THIS FAN COMES ON AT 238 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. NO ATTEMPT SHOULD BE MADE TO ALTER THE DESIGNED FAN OPERATION.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
