BACK GLASS REMOVAL REVISE REPAIR SPECIFICATION

BACK GLASS REMOVAL FOR PONTIAC FIERO

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987 PONTIAC FIERO GT -----------------

The procedure for removing the back glass of the Fiero GT was omitted in the 1987 Pontiac Fiero Manual. The following procedure should be used if the glass is intact and is to be reinstalled. If the back glass is broken, steps 8 through 24 do not apply.

CAUTION:

GLOVES AND SAFETY GLASSES SHOULD BE WORN TO PROTECT AGAINST PERSONAL INJURY.

Removal Procedure

1. Engine compartment grille panels.

2. Deck lid (2 people).

3. Back window to quarter filler panels.

4. Back glass lower reveal moulding.

NOTICE: PLYWOOD BOARD SHOULD BE PLACED BETWEEN BACK GLASS AND TORQUE RODS TO PROTECT BACK GLASS FROM BREAKAGE.

5. Torque rods (see Section 7J-2).

6. Deck lid hinges (see Section 7J-2).

7. Quarter glasses.

8. Seats.

9. Quarter trim panels (see Section 6J-3).

10. Center glove box.

11. High mounted stop lamp (see Section 7J-10).

12. Rear parcel shelf.

13. Coat hooks.

14. Headlining garnish mouldings.

15. Sunshades.

16. Lamp light and visor support.

17. Headlining.

18. Heated back glass wires and tape to glass.

19. Trim excess urethane from around outside of glass.

20. Using a curve blade knife or equivalent cut all four corners from inside.

21. Using long nose pliers from inside of vehicle feed a .20 service wire through urethane at bottom of back glass to outside, attach wooden dowels to ends of wires. One person on inside and one person outside, cut urethane using sawing motion, stopping and allowing wire to cool when it begins to smoke.

22. Clean butyl and urethane from back glass.

23. Clean butyl and urethane from pinchweld flange.

24. Clean tape from right and left quarter glass.

25. Clean tape from quarter glass openings.

26. Apply tape (3M Scotch mount tape part #Y-4225) or equivalent.

27. Apply butyl tape and urethane to back glass-butyl goes around perimeter of glass and urethane bead along inside edge of butyl.

28. Install back glass (2 people) using suction cups, insert glass through quarter opening then back into position.
