Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  3. Remove the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  4. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  5. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  6. Remove the I/P cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  7. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  8. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  9. Remove the head up display (HUD). Refer to Instrument Cluster Head Up Display Replacement .

  11. Remove the fastener (3) securing the HUD bracket (1) to the HVAC cross car duct (2).
  12. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  13. Disconnect the theft deterrent module electrical connector.
  14. Remove the HVAC programmer. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual, or to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  15. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .

  17. Remove the fasteners securing the steering column to the I/P carrier, lower and position the column out of the way. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  18. Remove the center console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  19. Remove the I/P storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  20. Remove the hazard warning lamp switch. Refer to Hazard Warning Switch Replacement .

  22. Remove the fasteners securing the I/P retainer to the I/P carrier.
  23. Disconnect the 2 main wire harness connectors at the top of the I/P.
  24. Disconnect the flat wire harness connector from the tab on the I/P carrier.
  25. Feed the driver information center (DIC) wire through the opening in the I/P retainer

  27. Disconnect the radio antenna extension cable (1) from the radio cavity by sliding the cable connection upwards out of the retainer (2).
  28. Feed the I/P storage compartment wiring through the I/P retainer.
  29. Remove the air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts by turning 1/4 turn counterclockwise.
  30. Disconnect the fog lamp switch electrical connector.
  31. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  32. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .

  34. Remove the fasteners (1) securing the ignition switch (2) to the I/P retainer.
  35. Remove the I/P retainer from the carrier.
  36. If the I/P retainer is to be replaced, transfer all remaining components.

Installation Procedure

  1. Align the instrument panel (I/P) retainer to the I/P carrier.
  2. Feed the electrical connectors through the openings in the I/P retainer.
  3. • Antenna extension cable
    • DIC
    • I/P storage compartment
    • Fog lamps
    • Theft deterrent module
    • Air temperature sensors

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the fasteners to secure the I/P retainer to the I/P carrier.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  6. Install the fastener (3) securing the HUD bracket (1) to the HVAC cross car duct (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the fastener to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Connect the theft deterrent electrical connector.
  9. Connect the DIC electrical connector.
  10. Connect the fog lamp electrical connector.
  11. Install the I/P storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  12. Install the center console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  13. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  14. Install the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  15. Install the ignition switch lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  16. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  17. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  18. Install the HVAC programmer. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual, or to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  19. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  20. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  21. Install the I/P cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  22. Install the HUD. Refer to Instrument Cluster Head Up Display Replacement .
  23. Install the I/P outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  24. Install the left closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  25. Install the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  26. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  27. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
