Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing L36

Draining Procedure

Important: Drain and measure as much of the refrigerant oil as possible from the removed compressor.

  1. Remove the compressor crankcase oil drain plug and drain the crankcase into a clean, graduated measurement container.

  2. Object Number: 821777 Size: SH
  3. Drain the oil from both the suction and discharge ports of the removed compressor into the same container.
  4. Rotate the compressor shaft to assist in draining the compressor.

  5. Measure and record the amount of oil drained from the removed compressor.
  6. This measurement will be used during installation of the replacement compressor.

  7. Properly discard the used refrigerant oil.

Balancing Procedure

Important: The refrigerant oil in the A/C system must be balanced during compressor replacement.

Follow the balancing instructions provided with the compressor.

  1. The replacement compressor is shipped without refrigerant oil.

  2. Object Number: 823337 Size: SH
  3. Calculate the amount of refrigerant oil required for oil balancing.
  4. Compare the following refrigerant oil capacities:

    • The amount drained and recorded during compressor removal.
    • The amount recommended for component replacement. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .
  5. Add the greater amount of refrigerant oil to the A/C compressor.

Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing LD8

Draining Procedure

Important: Drain and measure as much of the refrigerant oil as possible from the removed compressor.

  1. Drain the oil from both the suction and discharge ports of the removed compressor into a clean, graduated container.
  2. Rotate the compressor shaft to assist in draining the compressor.

    Object Number: 821777 Size: SH
  3. Measure and record the amount of oil drained from the removed compressor.
  4. This measurement will be used during installation of the replacement compressor.

  5. Properly discard the used refrigerant oil.

Balancing Procedure

Important: The refrigerant oil in the A/C system must be balanced during compressor replacement.

  1. The replacement compressor is shipped with 80 ml (2.7 oz) of refrigerant oil.

  2. Object Number: 823337 Size: SH
  3. Compare the amount of refrigerant oil recorded during compressor removal to the amount of refrigerant oil shipped in the replacement compressor.
  4. If the amount of refrigerant oil drained and recorded from the removed compressor is:

    • Less than 80 ml (2.7 oz)
    • Leave the 80 ml (2.7 oz) in the replacement compressor.
    • More than 80 ml (2.7 oz)
    • Add to the compressor the difference between the 80 ml (2.7 oz) and the amount drained.
