Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Assembly Replacement L36

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the evaporator hose nut at the accumulator.

  4. Object Number: 422256  Size: SH
  5. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator.
  6. Remove the right headlamp to access the evaporator hose nut at the condenser. Refer to Headlamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  7. Remove the evaporator hose nut at the condenser.

  8. Object Number: 419230  Size: SH
  9. Remove the evaporator hose from the condenser.

  10. Object Number: 419283  Size: SH
  11. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator cover.

  12. Object Number: 419227  Size: SH
  13. Remove the evaporator hose nut from the evaporator.
  14. Remove the evaporator hose from the evaporator.
  15. Pry up to remove the evaporator hose clip from the frame rail.
  16. Route the accumulator and condenser ends of the evaporator hose under the coolant overflow hose.
  17. Remove the evaporator hose from the vehicle.
  18. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the evaporator hose.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new sealing washers to the evaporator hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the evaporator hose in the vehicle.
  3. Install the evaporator hose clip into the frame rail.

  4. Object Number: 419227  Size: SH
  5. Install the evaporator hose to the evaporator.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the evaporator hose nut to the evaporator.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the A/C evaporator hose nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  9. Install the evaporator hose to the accumulator.
  10. Install the evaporator hose nut to the accumulator.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  12. Install the evaporator hose to the condenser.
  13. Install the evaporator hose nut to the condenser.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  15. Install the right headlamp. Refer to Headlamp Replacement in Lighting System.

  16. Object Number: 419283  Size: SH
  17. Position the evaporator hose on the accumulator cover and press to engage.
  18. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  19. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  20. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 474772  Size: SH
  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the evaporator hose (1) from the accumulator cover (2).
  4. Remove the evaporator hose nut from the accumulator.
  5. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator.

  7. Remove the evaporator hose (2) from the hold down (1) on the frame rail.
  8. Disconnect the low temperature sensor electrical connector.
  9. Remove the evaporator hose nut (1) from the evaporator core.

  10. Object Number: 474766  Size: SH
  11. Remove the evaporator hose (2) from the evaporator core.

  12. Object Number: 474778  Size: SH
  13. Remove the evaporator hose nut (1) from the condenser.
  14. Remove the evaporator hose (3) from the condenser.
  15. Remove the evaporator hose from the vehicle.
  16. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the evaporator hose.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install new sealing washers to the evaporator hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the evaporator hose to the condenser.
  3. Install the evaporator hose nut (1) to the condenser.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the evaporator hose (2) to evaporator core.
  6. Install the evaporator hose nut (1) to the evaporator core.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Connect the evaporator hose assembly to the accumulator.
  9. Install the accumulator nut to the accumulator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Position the evaporator hose (1) to the accumulator cover (2) and press to engage.

  12. Object Number: 474763  Size: SH
  13. Install the evaporator hose (2) to the frame rail hold down (1).
  14. Connect the low temperature sensor electrical connector.
  15. Install the surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  16. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
