Tools Required
J 43300 Torque Rod
Adjustment Tool
- Perform the front-to-rear
lid adjustment at the hinge to the rear shelf fasteners.
- Remove the rear shelf trim panel. Refer to
Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim
- Loosen the hinge fasteners .
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Align the lid so
as to achieve an equal 3 mm +/- 1 mm (.12 +/- .04 in)
gap around the entire perimeter of the rear compartment lid.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Perform the up/down adjustment
at the forward end of the hinge.
This procedure is performed from inside the passenger compartment.
- Turn the adjustment screw (1) in or out until the rear
compartment lid is flush, -1 to +1 mm (-.04 to +.04 in), with
the rear quarter panel.
- Up and down adjustment at the rear of the rear compartment lid
is achieved by turning the overslam bumpers in or out.
- Adjust the rear compartment lid flush, -1 to +1 mm (-.04
to +.04 in), with the rear quarter panels.
- Install the rear shelf trim panel. Refer to
Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.

- Support the rear compartment
lid.
- Remove the rear compartment trim, as necessary.
- Install the J 43300
to the torque rod.
- Adjust the torque rods to one of three positions for the desired
tension.
Use a ratchet wrench and a ratchet wrench extension for leverage.
- Adjust the torque rods to one of three positions in the adjustment
bracket for the desired tension.
5.1. | Moving the torque rod to a lower notch in the adjustment bracket
increases the effort in raising the lid, but decreases the effort in closing
the lid. |
5.2. | Moving the torque rod to a higher notch in the adjustment bracket
decreases the effort in raising the lid, but increases the effort in closing
the lid. |
