J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

  3. Object Number: 443867  Size: SH
  4. Remove the positive battery cable nut (1) and cable from the underhood fuse block.

  5. Object Number: 419283  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the evaporator hose from the accumulator cover.

  7. Object Number: 419284  Size: SH
  8. Remove the accumulator cover.

  9. Object Number: 419280  Size: SH
  10. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut at the accumulator.
  11. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
  12. Remove the evaporator hose nut.

  13. Object Number: 422256  Size: SH
  14. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator.
  15. Remove the accumulator from the housing.

Installation Procedure

  1. Add the proper amount of refrigerant oil to the accumulator. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .

  2. Object Number: 422262  Size: SH
  3. Install the accumulator into the housing.

  4. Object Number: 422256  Size: SH

    Important: 

       • Inspect the seal washers for damage before reinstalling the A/C lines and hoses
       • If any damage is noted during inspection, the suspect seal must be replaced
       • Flat washer type seals do not require lubrication

  5. Install the evaporator hose to accumulator.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the evaporator hose nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  9. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator fitting to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Install the accumulator cover.

  12. Object Number: 419283  Size: SH
  13. Install the evaporator hose into the retainer.
  14. Install the positive battery cable to the underhood fuse block.

  15. Object Number: 443867  Size: SH
  16. Install the positive battery cable nut (1).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  18. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  19. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  20. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
