Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.

  4. Object Number: 497900  Size: SH

    Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order to prevent brake fluid loss and/or contamination.

  5. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose and cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end.

  6. Object Number: 420702  Size: SH
  7. Using a flat-bladed tool, remove the brake hose retainer from the brake hose.
  8. Remove the brake hose from the brake hose bracket.

  9. Object Number: 420701  Size: SH
  10. Remove the brake hose to caliper bolt from the brake caliper.
  11. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
  12. Remove and discard the two copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
  13. Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order to prevent brake fluid loss and/or contamination.

  14. Install a rubber plug into the brake hose to caliper bolt hole of the brake caliper.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the rubber plug from the brake hose to caliper bolt hole of the brake caliper.

  2. Object Number: 420701  Size: SH

    Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

  3. Assemble the brake hose, the NEW copper brake hose gaskets and the brake hose bolt to the brake hose.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the brake hose to caliper bolt to the brake caliper.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the brake hose to caliper bolt to 44 N·m (32 lb ft).

    Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

  7. Install the brake hose to the brake hose bracket.
  8. Install the brake hose retainer to the brake hose.

  9. Object Number: 497900  Size: SH
  10. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.
  11. Install the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  13. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  14. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
