J 28662 Brake Pedal Effort Gauge

  1. With engine off and key at OFF pump service brake pedal until all reserve is exhausted from the power booster. (A definite change in pedal feel will occur.)
  2. Install the J 28662 onto the brake pedal.
  3. Hook the end of the tape measure over top edge of brake pedal and measure the distance to the rim of the steering wheel.
  4. Apply the service brake pedal with 445 N (100 lb) force and remeasure.
  5. Subtract the (at rest) measurement from the applied measurement. The difference between the two pedal positions is the pedal travel. The pedal travel should not exceed 57 mm (2.24 inches).
  6. If the pedal travel is greater than the specification, inspect the rear drum brake adjusters for the proper adjustment and operation.
