Inspect the steering column components for looseness.

Is the steering column components loose?

Inspect the SIR/SRS coil for noise.

Is the SIR/SRS coil noisy?

Inspect the horn contact ring for lubrication.

Does the horn contact ring need to be lubricated?

Inspect the intermediate shaft bearing for the following conditions:

    • Damage
    • Lubrication
    • Wear
    • Proper seating

Are the bearings in need of repair or replacement?

Inspect the steering column coupling for looseness.

Is the steering column coupling loose?

Tighten the steering column components to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Replace the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.

Lubricate the horn contact ring.
