Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Tune the radio to a known strong AM station, then to a known strong FM station.

Is the radio reception clear?

Inspect the windshield antenna grid for damage.

Did you find any damage?

--

Go to Step 4

Replace the windshield antenna. Refer to Windshield Replacement in Stationary Windows.

Did you complete the replacement?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  4. Important:: Always zero out the DMM before taking a resistance measurement in order to ensure an accurate reading.

  5. Measure the resistance from the negative battery cable to the metal case of the antenna lead-in cable at the radio.

Does the resistance measure greater than the specified value?

0.20 ohms

Inspect for poor connections at the following:

    • The antenna lead-in cable of the radio.
    • The ground connection from the negative battery cable to the body.
    • The ground bracket of the radio antenna cable extension located at the windshield header panel.
    • The windshield antenna lead-in cable to the radio antenna cable extension.

Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Important:: Always zero out the DMM before taking a resistance measurement in order to ensure an accurate reading.

  1. Disconnect the antenna lead-in cable from the radio.
  2. Disconnect the windshield antenna lead-in cable from the radio antenna cable extension.
  3. Measure the resistance from the center conductor of the radio antenna lead-in cable to the center conductor of the radio antenna cable extension.
  4. Wiggle the antenna cable while measuring the resistance.

Does the resistance measure greater than the specified value?

RG-58/RG-59 Coax: 0.20 ohms

RG-62/RG-62M Coax: 3.5 ohms

Replace the antenna cable. Refer to Antenna Cable Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Test for continuity from the center conductor of the antenna cable to metal case. Test at both ends of the antenna cable.

Did you measure continuity?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
