REAR DISC BRAKE MOAN NOISE INSTALL DAMPENER KIT

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1986 PONTIAC 6000 STE

Some vehicles may develop a moaning noise under light service brake application at low speeds (usually below 60 KPH). The moan is a low frequency noise that may sound like a growl and be associated with a vibration felt in the vehicle body. This noise should not be confused with brake squeal which is high pitched. The noise does not indicate a functional problem and may go away with time and mileage.

If the moan noise persists, a damper can be added to the park brake actuator levers (see the illustration). If the actuator levers do not have predrilled holes, replace them with new levers. Use Service Manual instructions for park brake actuator lever removal and assembly.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
