POWER SUNROOF - MODIFIED GUIDES TO REPAIR RATTLE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1986 PONTIAC 6000 WITH POWER SUNROOF

SHOP MANUAL UPDATE

A rattling condition may be encountered on Pontiac 6000 vehicles equipped with power sunroof. The condition can be repaired using the following procedure.

The guides are specified to each corner. Longer guides are used at the rear corners (see Figure 1).

Replacement Procedure

Remove or Disconnect

1. Vent sunroof and slide sunshade rearward.

2. Three screws securing halo to glass panel.

3. Slide halo and sunshade fully rearward, then pull sunshade forward.

4. Deflect center of sunshade upward at rear to disengage the two rear guides from track, one at a time.

5. Raise sunshade over the halo and turn counterclockwise to disengage the two front, guides from the track.

6. Lower sunshade and remove from vehicle.

7. Set shade on bench - pry tabs 45 degrees - 60 degrees then use screwdriver to pop guides off the sunshade (Figure 2).

Install or Connect

1. Install guides over tabs (Figure 3).

2. Bend tabs down into the pocket in the guide flush to the surface (Figure 4).

3. Position sunshade below halo.

4. Rotate sunshade and install two front guides into track.

5. Install two rear guides into track.

6. Slide halo and sunshade fully forward, keeping the corners behind the linkage.

7. Slide sunshade rearward to install three halo to glass panel screws.
