1985-86 PONTIAC 6000 AND STE VEHICLES WITH 2.8L EFI V-6 ENGINE (VIN CODE W)
--------- SEVERAL CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR WHICH COULD CAUSE INTERMITTENT OR SOLID MALFUNCTIONS, AND INCLUDE:
1. LOSS OF GENERATOR FUNCTION.
2. LOSS OF AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR OPERATION OR BLOWN FUSE.
3. ON PONTIAC 6000 STE ONLY, A TRANSISTOR IN THE A/C CONTROL HEAD MAY BE SHORTED, CAUSING A LOSS OF A/C OPERATION. THIS ALSO RESULTS IN A LOSS OF "A/C CLUTCH APPLIED" SIGNAL TO THE ECM, WHICH MAY RESULT IN A SURGE OR ROUGH IDLE COMPLAINT.
ENGINE WIRE HARNESS COULD RUB THROUGH IN THE AREA SHOWN IN THE ILLU- STRATION, AND CAUSE A SHORT IN ANY OF SEVERAL CIRCUITS.
REPAIR ANY DAMAGED WIRES IN THE AREA SHOWN IN THE ILLUSTRATION. WRAP THE ENTIRE AREA OF THE HARNESS WITH AT LEAST FOUR LAYERS OF ELECTRICAL TAPE, THEN USE TIE STRAPS TO SECURE THE HARNESS AWAY FROM THE SHARP EDGE OF THE BLOCK.
