POWER BRAKE BOOSTER CHECK VALVE RATTLE-NEW KIT

1986 6000 WITH 2.5L 4-CYL. (VIN CODE R) ENGINES

"Please discard previous butletin 86-5-1 due to this revision which provides VIN breakpoints. "

Some early 1986 6000 models may exhibit a rattle type noise that originates in the dash area on the driver's side. The rattling noise may result from the fluttering of the vacuum booster check valve. The rattle noise is most apparent when the brake pedal is released with the engine running. The rattle condition can be eliminated by replacing the original check valve with a new service part.

The check valve on VIN Code "R" engines uses a larger vacuum hose and must be replaced by the correct service part. Production vehicles with the following or higher serial numbers were built with the latest check valve:

Oklahoma G6107504

Framingham GG102326

Oshawa G1121301

Service Part Kit #18012017

Use applicable Labor Time and Operation Number.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
