1985-86 6000 AND 6000 STE MODELS
CONDITIONS CONTRIBUTING TO EXCESSIVE EFFORT TO RELEASE HOOD LATCHES ON 1985-86 6000 AND 6000 STE MODELS CAN BE CORRECTED BY MAKING SURE THAT THE COMPONENTS ARE PROPERLY ADJUSTED AND LUBRICATED.
A PROPERLY ADJUSTED HOOD WILL BE FLUSH WITH THE FENDERS AT THE FRONT OUTBOARD CORNERS AND WILL PRESENT AN EVEN GAP TO THE GRILLE ASSEMBLY ACROSS THE FRONT EDGE OF THE HOOD.
ADJUSTING THE HOOD STRIKER BOLT LENGTH 43-45MM AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1 WILL GIVE THE PROPER HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT IN MOST CASES.
ADJUSTING THE FRONT OUTBOARD HOOD BUMPERS SO THE HOOD IS FLUSH WITH THE FENDER SURFACE WILL GIVE THE PROPER HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT AT THE FENDERS.
THE PROPER LUBRICATION POINTS ARE AS INDICATED IN FIGURE 2. USE GM P/N 1052349 OR EQUIVALENT WHEN LUBRICATING THE LATCH STRIKER, LATCH PLATE COMPONENTS AND SECONDARY HOOD LATCH PIVOT.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
