INOPERATIVE COOLING FAN HIGH A/C HEAD PRESSURE

INOPERATIVE COOLING FAN WITH HIGH A/C HEAD PRESSURE

MODELS AFFECTED 1986-87 6000 MODELS WITH --------------- 2.8L (LB6) ENGINE AND A/C

Condition:

The engine cooling fan may not operate when the A/C head pressure is high, which could lead to insufficient A/C cooling, or an overheated engine.

Cause: ------ The retaining ramp on the cooling fan pressure switch is backwards. This was changed in production early in the 1988 model year by first using a tie- strap, and then by changing the ramp on the switch.

Correction: ----------- Use a plastic tie-strap to secure the connector to the switch (See Illustration). Replacement of the switch is not necessary.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
