TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT PROGRAM

1984-87 6000 AND 1987 BONNEVILLE MODELS EQUIPPED WITH THM 440-T4 (ME9)

BULLETIN COVERS:

Reports indicate the SRTA program is the primary method of servicing THM 440-T4 transaxles in the field. Based on analysis of units returned for remanufacturing, the SRTA service option is being used for on-car pleasability and minor repair items which could have been serviced by the dealership faster and at less cost than a complete unit replacement.

SERVICE ACTION:

Use SRTA when the projected cost to overhaul the transaxle is more that the cost of a SRTA replacement.

Do not use SRTA for any on-car service items or overhauls that are projected to cost less than a SRTA replacement.

Prior zone approval is required for use of a second THM 440-T4 SRTA on the same vehicle.

SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION:

All component parts for servicing all models and years are available through GM Service Parts Operations (GMSPO).

When ordering service parts (including SRTA) refer to the latest GMSPO Parts Catalog. Make sure to order the correct service parts based on the vehicle model year and transmission application (calibration).

SERVICE MANUAL REFERENCE:

Complete service procedures are covered in appropriate Service Manuals.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
