Cladding Replacement - Body Side Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 441634  Size: SH
  1. Use a heat gun 152 mm (6 inches) in order to remove the heat body side molding.

  2. Object Number: 441619  Size: SH
  3. Use a circular motion for 30 seconds in order to apply the heat.
  4. Important: Ensure that you do NOT damage the paint while peeling off the molding.

  5. Use a flat bladed tool in order to peel the molding from the surface.

  6. Object Number: 321645  Size: SH
  7. Use a 3M scotch brite® molding adhesive remover disk, 3M P/N 07501 or the equivalent in order to remove all the adhesive from the body panel and the back of molding.
  8. Wash the affected panel area with soap and water and wipe dry.
  9. Use Varnish Makers and Painters (VM&P) naphtha in order to remove all the traces of adhesive from the body panel and the back of the molding.

Installation Procedure

  1. Use a heat lamp or heat gun at 21°C (70°F) in order to install the warm body panel.

  2. Object Number: 319584  Size: SH
  3. Peel the protective liner from the front end of the molding.
  4. Important: 

       • Do NOT touch the exposed adhesive tape with your hands.
       • Do NOT allow any dirt or foreign material to touch the exposed adhesive tape.

  5. Position the molding to the body panel.

  6. Object Number: 319580  Size: SH
  7. Align the locating pins into the holes in the body panel, starting with the front hole.
  8. Press the molding to the body panel while continuing to remove the backing.

  9. Object Number: 319577  Size: SH
  10. Hand roll the molding to the body panel in order to ensure proper adhesion.
  11. Ensure that the molding ends do NOT overlap the following:
  12. • The door edge
    • The door edge guard
    • The lock cylinder
    • Body openings
  13. Inspect the molding ends for bonding.
  14. Hand roll the loose ends.

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover


    Object Number: 319606  Size: SH
  1. Use the J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainer from the lower front of the door molding.

  2. Object Number: 441631  Size: SH
  3. Use a heat gun 152 mm (6 in) from the surface in order to heat the lower edge of the door molding.
  4. Use a circular motion for 30 seconds when applying the heat.

  5. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to peel the lower edge of the door molding from the surface.
  6. Do NOT damage the paint.

  7. Pull the lower edge of the door molding out in order to release the retainers.
  8. Pull the lower edge of the door molding out in order to release the molding from the lower locating pins.
  9. Pull the lower edge of the door molding up in order to release the molding from the upper support.
  10. Remove the door molding from the door.
  11. Pull out the center pins of the support retainers.

  13. Use a heat gun 152 mm (6 in) from the surface in order to heat the door molding support.
  14. Use a circular motion for 30 seconds when applying the heat.

  15. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to peel the door molding support from the surface.
  16. Do NOT damage the paint.

  17. Remove the door molding support from the door.
  18. Pull out the center pins from the lower support retainers.
  19. Remove the lower support from the door.
  20. Use oil-free naphtha or alcohol in order to clean the body panel.
  21. Remove all traces of adhesive from the body panel.

Installation Procedure

    Important: 

       • Do NOT touch the exposed adhesive tape with your hands.
       • Do NOT allow the exposed adhesive tape to collect any dirt or foreign material.

  1. Use a heat lamp or heat gun in order to warm the door to a minimum of 21°C (70°F).

  2. Object Number: 319607  Size: SH
  3. Remove the protective liner from the back side of the support.
  4. Align the lower support and the retainers into the holes in the door.
  5. Insert the support into the holes starting with the front hole.
  6. Drive in the center pins of the retainers.
  7. Press the support in in order to ensure a maximum bond to the door.
  8. Use a heat lamp or heat gun in order to warm the door to a minimum of 21°C (70°F).

  9. Object Number: 319606  Size: SH
  10. Install the door molding to the door.
  11. Snap the center flange of the door molding into the 2 outer retainers.
  12. Snap the lower locating pins into the holes in the door.
  13. Snap the center flange of the door molding into the remainder of the retainers on the door.
  14. Push the upper portion of the door molding inboard over the retainers.
  15. Remove the protective liner from the back side of the door molding.
  16. Press the bottom of the door molding inboard in order to ensure a maximum bond to the door.
  17. Install the push-in retainer to the front of the door molding into the lower support.
