Removal Procedure

J 41718 Sunroof Timing Pins

    Important: The sunroof system is timed from the factory so that the motor shuts off automatically when the sunroof window reaches a certain position. Extreme care must be taken when removing the motor from the sunroof module or this timing may be thrown off causing damage to the sunroof system. Anytime the motor needs to be removed from the module, the sunroof must be in the fully closed position.

  1. Remove the sunroof window. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement in Roof.
  2. Close the sunroof module completely.
  3. Remove the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the actuator.
  5. Important: Check to ensure that J 41718 is tight and holding cable before removing the motor.

  6. Thread J 41718 into the front of the sunroof window screw hole in order to retain the cable adjustment.
  7. Remove the sunroof actuator screws.
  8. Remove the sunroof actuator from the module.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the sunroof actuator to the module.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the sunroof actuator screws.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  5. Remove J 41718 from the front sunroof window screw holes.
  6. Connect the electrical connector to the actuator.
  7. Install the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  8. Install the sunroof window. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement in Roof.
